COORDINATOR'S NOTES
By Donna Diaz, R.N., M.S.,
Information and Referral Center Coordinator
What a pleasure it is sending a message to you early in 2008--with all the promise and hope that a New Year brings.
As you can see from our 2007 Chapter report, Gladys Tiedemann, our volunteer President, and I crisscrossed the state (and beyond) and were involved with a whirlwind of activities. It was wonderful talking with so many of you on the phone or via email as well as joining you at support group meetings, during educational programs, at fitness classes, and more! You should be proud of how well you stay connected to each other and to the APDA in CT. By doing so, you certainly accomplish the fine goal of living "well" with Parkinson's.
Over the years, I've been continually impressed by the "resilience" which so many of you display. You are such fine role models to all those you come in contact with. At the APDA July Conference in Boston, Dr. David Rintell from Brigham and Women's Hospital, presented a lecture on this very topic---the art of individual and family resilience in Parkinson's. Those that heard Dr. Rintell said he was insightful, inspirational, and humorous. We are bringing Dr. Rintell and his spirited message to Connecticut to celebrate April as Parkinson Awareness Month. (See our "Events" Calendar for more information about this program and others being held in 2008.)
Give me a call at the Center (203-789-3936 or toll-free 1-888-282-7328) or drop me an email (ddiaz@srhs.org) for details on any aspect of living with Parkinson's disease. Your calls are always welcome. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing you at Dr. Rintell's talk and our many other events throughout the region in 2008! |
